Reader's Digest Apr 2009 Edition is pretty interesting. I'll share some interesting ideas mentioned in it below. All written below are my summary of the ideas shared in READER'S DIGEST April 2009.
- Adapted from Health News You Can Use A neuroscientist from University of Oxford said that being with friends is the most pleasurable people can find in their daily lives, second only to sex. He added that whatever people find pleasurable, such as drinking a favourite beverage or savouring the simple flavours of a meal, will be further enhanced when doing it with someone else.
Then why do people feel guilty indulging in pleasure? The neuroscientist said, "Guilt is like a built-in stop valve." In simple terms, it stops you from overindulging in a single thing, such as food, and still allowing yourself to enjoy the pleasure which will lasts in the long run - other people.
The article ends with saying there's no magic in living a pleasurable life. "The simplest pleasures really are the best ones."
This article is actually saying what we already know, but giving it a scientific and scientifiable term. It is such a simple notion in life, but most usually do not give themselves the moment and time to indulge in this simple feeling -Pleasure. Giving pleasure to others or receiving pleasure from others doesnt really matters. What matters is that one has to enjoy pleasure. One of the Easy-to-say-and-talk-about-but-is-so-freaking-hard-to-actually-carry-it-out-and-do-it things in life.
But who say you cant DIE TRYING? :)
- Retrieved from Laugh! :) Its really the best medicine "The opposite of talking isn't listening. The opposite of talking is waiting."
This is really up to one's interpretations. I felt that it was a very, true saying. (though it was supposed to be a joke, but you know the saying, "Life is such a joke at times.")
Listening, does that means understanding? What kind of listener does the speaker wishes to have? Just someone who will listen to the sorrowful stories and happy tales? A someone who will agrees to whatever the speaker feels about? Or someone who can gives honest feelings and thoughts and provide guidance to the speaker even when the speaker does not want it. Does the speaker wants the listener's honest feelings? It really depends, on oneself.
Waiting, waiting for what? One's turn to talk? To nod in agreement? To refute in disagreement? To give some sort of acknowledgement to the speaker? Or to find an excuse to leave the conversation? The possibilities are unendless.
But really, a conversation should never be dependent on just one side. Both the speaker and listener must truly wants to converse. It doesnt matters if its a good conversation with friends or a 'bad' one with your enemy. When there is a need to converse with one another, do it right. Thats the least both sides can do about it.
Add-ons about cats in RD's Quotes:
- "Cats are intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a purpose"
- "Dogs look up to you; cats look down on you; pigs treat you as equal."
- "Dogs come when they're called; cats take a message, and get back to you later."
- "The problem with cats is that they get the exact same look on their faces whether they see a moth or an axe murderer."
Damn hilarious can!!! hahahahahahaha!!! I love cats! Did i mentioned how much i love them? :)
